April 8 - 10 Charleston, SC

Decided to stay at a Quality Inn while in Charleston. Took a boat tour of the harbor. Had an awesome narrator. Saw Fort Sumter and other sights around the bay. We also went to the SC Aquarium. A compact but packed with information. They have a high interest in turtles and have a turtle rehab center (not for drugs silly, for injuries!). Follows an internet description:

Charleston, the South Carolina port city founded in 1670, is defined by its cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and pastel antebellum houses, particularly in the elegant French Quarter and Battery districts. The Battery promenade and Waterfront Park both overlook Charleston Harbor, while Fort Sumter, a federal stronghold where the first shots of the Civil War rang out, lies across the water.

Did I happen to mention that they set new records for the coldest day while we were there?

NOTE from the Usual Suspects text messenger: Today we took a tour of the harbor here in Charleston. It is very big and it was very windy and a bit chilly. But the narrator did an awesome job and told us more stories that we could have ever needed to know. Good time was had by all. And tomorrow we visit a garden Plantation. Looks like a great place to go. / Almost forgot to mention. We also went to the aquarium. It was very informative had some nice fish and was fun. Record low high temperatures today. Only going to be around 60 degrees. / Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. / Cold weather seems to be following us, hope there is no snow when you arrive in Miami /  Right now it is 45° outside and here in Charleston and in fact about the same in Savannah Georgia. I think we’re setting new records for cold! It won’t hit the 70s until afternoon tomorrow. / Hello my dearest! Last night in the Carolinas. Tomorrow morning we leave for Savannah. Looking forward to some warmth. The weather was so wretched here that they canceled our nature boat ride. We were supposed to go on the Ashley River and maybe explore some marshes, but the wind was fierce. As a consolation we got to see the last part of the Charleston air show. The Blue Angels were amazing . It was so windy we thought they wouldn't fly but as we were walking back to the parking lot we heard the roar of the planes and decided to freeze out there for another hour or so. What a show! Well worth it the numb limbs and frozen noses. /
