Arrived at our Airbnb. It is absolutely awesome. It's of Antebellum style and we had the second floor with a full front porch. Although old, it was well done and had many embellishments. It had a clawfoot tub with shower attachment which was a little tricky. Not much to really hang on to. Since we were staying in the Savannah Historic District (A National Historic Landmark), we took a long walk getting acclimated with the area. The homes are beautiful! Stopped during our walk and had a bite to eat at Clary's Cafe.
Got home and were sitting in the small sitting area overlooking the street and I noticed that there were some books in the bookshelf that were written by our host, Patricia Mason. Looked through them and all except one were Gothic Novels and the one was a book she wrote called 'Confucius Cat Says...'.
It's cute and funny. I had to text her about something, so I added that we discovered some books written by her. I asked if I could purchase any and she said we could have one. I told her I liked the 'Confucius Cat Says...' and she mentioned that is her favorite. I then asked if she could autograph it and she agreed to the next day (and did).
The next day we were walking some more around the historic district (it is so beautiful) and stopped to admire a church and the gentleman next to us asked if we would like a short tour. It was really nice and the people in Savannah are so welcoming. Stopped to eat, of course. We took a guided tour of the Jim Williams house. Mr. Williams was the main character in the book 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil', by John Berendt. Made into a movie also.
During our wanderings, I noticed that my chariot was squeaking horribly and discovered that a front wheel bearing had disintegrated so I suggested to Lilia we head back to the house before the wheel falls off. Just made it. The next adventure with the scooter will be to find a replacement wheel and/or bearing.
NOTE from the Usual Suspects text messenger: Good morning my dear friends and family. Greetings from beautiful Savannah. Once we are done with our morning ablutions and preening we'll go and explore the town via hop on- hop off trolley. This is a beautiful Airbnb on the second floor of a modest antebellum (I think) house in the middle of the historic district. The owner is a writer, Patricia Mason, whose books have received good reviews. Not in the NYTimes though. She writes romance thriller. Cute and entertaining. She has decorated this place in the nicest shabby-chic style. I love it. Makes me think of you Evelyn: rescuing treasures from wherever and restoring them to their former glory. That's why we prefer Airbnb rather than hotels. Each one is a unique and surprising experience, plus you get to know all sorts of interesting people along the way. Hotels are convenient but meh. Unless you spend a small fortune, they are pretty much the same. OK, It is time to get ready and see what the day holds. / I read this book many years ago. Hopefully we have a chance to visit some of the sites mentioned in this sordid story. Cheers! "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil". / It is pretty warm, but I've been walking. We are sitting pretty around Forsyth park waiting for the Mercer Williams House Museum tour to start. The famous Forsyth Park Fountain and the famously handsome Jerry Thomas. / Okay here's the latest of the greatest. My scooter threw a bearing in the front wheel yesterday. Hope I can find a part, then I can fix it. On our way to Jacksonville today /
