May 7th thru May 11th - Naples, Fla

On Friday May 7th we took Ken & Brenda to the Miami International Airport for their departure to their home in NJ. Earlier in the morning we had left Key Largo for the last time. After they got into the TSA line we departed for Naples for our next Airbnb.

The check in time had been changed to 5pm so we were in no rush. We decided to use Rt 41 (two lane road) instead of Rt 75 (four lane highway). Much nicer, emptier and more relaxed trip. Along the way we stopped at the Ochopee post office (the smallest post office in the country), too bad it was closed. Also the Everglades City, FL Panther Statue and the Clyde Bucher Big Cypress Gallery (next to the Everglades) Not really a nature center, is really is an art gallery showing and selling the works of Clyde Butcher. He is amazing! When we walked in Lilia immediately thought 'Ansel Adams". Well, he is called the Ansel Adams of Florida. Great black and white landscape and nature photographs, all well above my budget, but it was like a visit to the museum and got some education in the process. From there we went to Chokoloskee Island, just to see it. With a name like that, there us no way we'll miss the chance to look at it. There is nothing much, a bunch or RVs parked there forever with cute little porches and landscape around them. I love the names of the streets. My favorite: Alligator alley. We stopped at the Havana Café for a bite, but they were closed for some reason.

Ventured on and into Naples and checked out the Historic District and a Beach. Not too busy for a Saturday. Every home we saw was a Mansion. Absolutely amazing!

Then we stopped at a grocery store to pick up supplies and off to the Airbnb. Since we were both very tired, it was off to bed early.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY on the 8th.

We decided that it would be a "house cat" day and didn't go anywhere.

May 9th - we went to the Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens. It is a nice small zoo in beautiful gardens. We saw many interesting animals and some beautiful flora! It was a hot day - got up to 92 degrees. Came back to the Airbnb right after the zoo and had supper.

May 10th. Got up late and hung out for awhile. Finally got on the road around noon and after mailing some post cards and b'day card (Eric), we went to the Revs Institute. They have three floors of racing cars there. 99% are originals with history. After that we went and washed the car then to the grocery store to get TV dinners for tonight. I also purchased tickets for The Met Live - in HD at the local theater. We will see "Turandot".

Watch Out for the Alligator! Made of horseshoes and a few tools.
